The AVPI position generated quite a few messages. Here's a venue to discuss this topic further.

Faculty, I don't know if the approved AVPI position saves money or not. Frankly, at this point that discussion is secondary to the discussion about re-organization in general. Since her arrival, the VPI has suggested several re-organization strategies: IPT and Curriculum Committee, the RIF language, corporate and continuing education. Some of you may have heard of others. I don't know how you all feel, but I feel like a pawn in some "check the box" game. My sense is that the VPI wants to do as much as she can as quickly as she can to "check the box" on moving toward a presidency.

We are reeling from the 2017-18 RIFs, the current RIF processes and the impact on 2019-20. The mixed messages of a 1 - 2% budget cut to a 5% budget cut over the course of four days is frustrating and exhausting. The budget actions/threats of the last two years and the intense pathways work are enough! We are headed into a CTC transition, an interim president and another permanent presidential search. The VPI should give us a break....give us respect and the energy to do our jobs....and the professional pay we deserve. SO, when you hear about re-organization, ask if the proposal "checks a box" for career advancement or makes our workload more reasonable. Can't we just finish what we have started? Pathways, advising, and CTC link.

I think this is certainly worth more conversation, but it doesn't look like people are using this forum much, and I'd rather not post here if only a few people will see. Can we do this via email? The emails to our personal accounts do not allow us reply all, however . . .

That's an idea. We can't "reply all" to CCAHE or my gmail (to protect people's private email addresses) but we Can create a gmail for discussion threads (and I just did:) We prefer the discussion forum approach so that our members personal emails aren't out there for all to see. However, if members are game, perhaps email discussion threads are the way to go. I'm open to trying myriad approaches.
Here's a link to provide personal emails that will be seen by others in the discussion thread: forms.gle/puyAr5b8SenfV4bSA
We can't verify who is participating in the thread but we'll make sure to use a disclosure statement indicating that we are discussing union business. The new email is This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
Thank you for the idea. Let's see how this works!
